My recent latex figure painting, Capaneus scaling the Theban walls, will be featured in the 5th annual Bare Form exhibit at the Monongalia Art Center's Benedum Gallery. The show will be open from November 1st through November 27th. Capaneus scaling the Theban walls, latex paint on canvas, 47" x 25" (diptych), 2013 About the Bare Form exhibit and the figure in art, the Monongalia Arts Center offers: The beauty of the body has inspired artists from the dawn of history yet remains an inextricable part of the human experience. Our intimate familiarity with the human body bears the challenge to the artist…transforming that which is known into an expression of emotion. My work was recently featured in Issue 7 of The Point Magazine, a Chicago-based print journal publishing rigorous but
accessible essays on contemporary life and culture. Thanks to Claire and the others at The Point Magazine for making my work a part of their recent issue. I was excited to be selected to represent my home state of West Virginia on the interactive map of Figure50.com - an online competition to highlight figurative art across the country. Here's what the creators of Figure50.com had to say about their site's mission: Our idea developed from the strong conviction that there are outstanding artists living and working in every corner of the country, not just the hot-spots typically associated with the contemporary art market. Check out the interactive map and explore the work representing the rest of the states! www.figure50.com
